Senior Yahoo!!! 53 Years old Nigerian Man, Bags 3 Years In U.S Prison For Internet Fraud (Photo)

A Nigerian man was, on Tuesday, sentenced to 3 years and 4 months in prison, for taking part in years-long schemes that defrauded unwitting people from the U.S. and other countries of hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Clement Onuama, 53, owned a legitimate auto sales and repair business near Arlington, Texas, which prosecutors said became a front for an operation that laundered money gained through a systemic and long-term fleecing of gullible persons.

Onuama, from Lagos, was also ordered to pay $409,639 in restitution. In addition, the court ordered Onuama to forfeit as a personal money judgment, $409,639 in ill-gotten gains.

Onuama’s co-conspirator, Orefo Okeke, was sentenced by Judge Conley on October 18, 2018, to 45 months imprisonment, and ordered to pay $582,955.90 in restitution to the victims.

On July 17, 2018, Onuama pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud and money laundering.

Okeke and Onuama participated in multiple frauds by means of wires, including: romance frauds, business email compromises, identity theft, bank account takeovers, and credit card fraud.

Onuama was found responsible for causing a fraud loss of $1,076,602.

According to Daily Post, Okorocha made the statement while reacting to rumours that he has dumped the ruling party.

The known fraudsters in Imo politics who have sneaked into Imo APC have come up with the cheap and unfounded rumour of Governor Rochas Okorocha and Ugwumba Uche Nwosu leaving APC for SDP. Their first claim was ADC.

“Like we had intoned, this baseless rumour was manufactured by these fraudsters and been marketed by their agents on the social media.

“Nobody builds a befitting house and abandons it for those who are facing criminal charges for issuance of Dud Cheques and failure to declare their assets.

“Rochas Okorocha is the LANDLORD of Imo APC in particular and that of the South-East in general. And he has the onerous task of ensuring that those recruited to destroy the Party in the State and indeed in the South-East do not have their way,” Okorocha added.

Governor Rochas Okorocha had earlier debunked reports of the fall out with APC in May 2018.

APC primaries: I can’t mortgage my conscience for my job — Oshiomhole

Oshiomhole spoke to State House correspondents after having a closed door meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday in Abuja.

Adams Oshiomhole,  National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress(APC), says he will not mortgage his conscience  in order to keep his job.

Speaking on the fallout of APC primaries, he dismissed rumours that  some governors were moblising to unseat him.

According to him, he knows that the job is not a pensionable job as he will leave it one day; hence he will do the job according to the rules and his conscience.

He said that out of the 23 APC governors, only three were not pleased with the outcome of the primaries in their states.

Oshiomhole said that no one could begrudge the governors for not being happy if a particular outcome did not coincide with their expectations.

He said that he neither had the power to appoint nor the power to change anything particularly when things had been properly done.

According to him, the three governors who are unhappy are his friends.

“So, all I have tried is to find some courage to enforce the rules and I think an overwhelming majority of the governors appreciate that I have done the best because change is not easy.

“We all want change but the process of change can be quite traumatising; because it is not painless. People have been used to a particular way of doing things; to encourage them to do them differently can be a challenge.

“So, here I am as national chairman conducting primaries, the outcome of which some very powerful people did not see their preferred candidates emerging.

“Let me say that if there is a choice between my conscience–what I believe is right and mortgaging that conscience in order to keep the job, I will have no difficulty resolving it in favour of my conscience.

“And those who know me know that at my age, I cannot learn new tricks; I am absolutely committed to justice; fairness;  I  a stickler to enforcement of rules; because the source of relevance is derived from rules. I have lived my life fighting for justice and fairness.’’

The APC national chairman said however, that the issues would be resolved as internal family issues as the three governors were his friends.

He said that in a moment of distress, he believed that the friendship was enough to help them to build reconciliation.

According to Oshiomhole, he respects and appreciates the governors for the fact that but for their support, he would not become APC chairman.

“And you do not go stepping on toes of those who helped you to get into position.

“But however, I thought I was clear and I remain clear that helping me to get to the position, it was to help APC to return to its core values of progressive politics, of fairness, of justice, of adherence to rule of law and total submission to the extant provisions of our party constitution.

“In doing that, you do not look at power; you look at what is; what is just.

“I think that with time, we will reconcile all these; Amosun is my good friend; we have known each other for a very long time; we exchange personal visits in addition to official visits; Zamfara governor has been the  Chairman of NGF and I was an active member of that forum; we have wonderful time together and I believe in the future, we are still going to have wonderful time together.

“Governor  Rocha’s Okorocha was one of those who had issues with my predecessor and I did my best to try and resolve those issues in a way that has been given him a new platform.

“And I am happy that God used us to do that not by cheating in his favour but by doing what is right; it is just that once you stick to the goal, sometimes, you either get caught on the right side or the wrong side,’’ he said.

He said that some Abuja-based politicians were not known in their villages and they thought they were popular; but when their `loudness’ in Abuja failed to translate into electoral victory; they looked for who to blame.

Pakistan Court Aquits Christian Woman Of Blasphemy

A Pakistani court has over ruled the death sentence of a Christian woman convicted of blasphemy, a case that has polarised the country.

Asia Bibi was convicted in 2010 after being accused of insulting the prophet Muhammad in a row with her neighbours. 

She has maintained her innocence, but spent the last eight years in solitary confinement.

The landmark ruling has already set off violent protests by hardliners to support strong blasphemy laws.

Demonstrations against the verdict are being held in Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar and Multan. 

The red zone in the capital police has sealed off Islamabad, where the Supreme Court is located,, and paramilitary forces deployed to keep protesters away from the court.

Chief Justice Saqibnisarm, read the ruling that Asia Bibi can walk freely from jail in Sheikupura, near Lahore, immediately if not wanted in connection with any other case. 

She was not in court to hear the ruling, but reacted to the verdict from prison with apparent disbelief.

The trial stems from an argument Asia Bibi, whose full name is Asia Noreen, had with a group of women in June 2009.

Osinbajo Charges Creative Industry On Development Of Policies

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has urged the creative industry in Nigeria to collaborate with government in developing policies that could strengthen the sector.

The vice president said this at the inaugural edition of the art summit Nigeria in Lagos, and noted that such collaborative effort will ensure that the industry attains its full potentials.

Nigerian arts and culture predates the country’s independence. Over the years, attempts have been made by government, individuals and groups to promote Nigeria art; no significant progress has been made. With FESTAC the first deliberate attempt by government to use culture as a unifying factor for national development, the Nigerian creative industry is gradually finding its feet. Vice president Osinbajo explained that for the industry to thrive, it is important for practitioners to be among those that make policies that will drive the industry.

The vice president explained that in supporting the creative industry, the federal government has established innovation hubs in some parts of the country.

Professor Osinbajo was taken on a guided tour of the exhibition stand by the organisers.

Buhari Advises Political Aspirants On Loyalty To Party Ideals

President Muhammadu Buhari has urged political party aspirants who lost out in the primaries to remain faithful to the country and hold fast to integrity as there will be more opportunities to serve along the way.

Speaking at a dinner with All Progressives Congress (APC) aspirants forum at the presidential villa, President Buhari said the primary motivation to contest elections should be to improve the country, and not for pecuniary reasons.

The president said he contested presidential elections three times before coming to power in 2015, adding that providence will always pave the way for the just, committed and patient politician who wants to truly serve the country.

President Buhari told the aspirants that those who mismanaged the resources of the country are still very much around, with incredible wealth, warning the aspirants to be vigilant and circumspect in making choices, as those who love the country will only salvage the future.

He pointed out that in spite of all efforts to appease everyone and give them a chance at the polls, some aspirants were still not treated fairly.

In his remarks, the minister of justice and attorney general of the federation, Abubakar Malami, said the meeting was organised to address grievances and fallout from the APC primary elections across the country.

The minister said it would be unfortunate to allow the grievances overshadow the challenges before the country, assuring the aspirants that the government would assuage their yearnings to serve the country.

Malami said the aspirants should work collectively with the president in building the party and setting up a framework that would ensure healthier relationships and better internal democracy.

The leader of the APC aspirants’ forum, Yusuf Banki, said the network of 7,000 members will work to ensure president buhari’s victory at the polls in 2019.

Pakistan Marks Kashmir Black Day

The government of Pakistan wants Nigeria and other countries across the world to voice out their aversion to the killings going on in Kashmir.

The Pakistani ambassador to Nigeria Wagar Kugravi made the call as his country marked the 2018 Kashmir black day.

What began like a non-violet resistance to the forceful occupation of Kashmir in Pakistan by the Indian government since 1947 has resulted in the loss of more than 100,000 lives. Property worth huge amount of money was equally destroyed. The violence broke out in 1989.

The Pakistani ambassador to Nigeria Wagar Kingravi says the comity of nations have not done enough to stop the violence. He expressed fears that the crisis could snow ball into a civil war between the two Asian countries.

At the event marking the Kashmir black day, Kingravi insisted that the united nations resolution on the right of self-determination should be implemented.

The envoy said the aim of the observance of the black day is to remind the world of its obligation towards settling the Kashmir dispute in line with the relevant U.N. resolutions and the wishes of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

Ghanaian football star, Asamoah Gyan has filed for divorce from his wife, Gifty Gyan, at the Divorce and Matrimonial Division of the High Court, Accra.

It is gathered that the footballer is seeking a dissolution of his five-year-old marriage to Gifty on grounds of irreconcilable differences.It is learnt that the couple have been separated for months with Gyan also denying paternity of their three children.

To ascertain if the kids are his, he is also demanding a DNA test to be carried out on all three children.

There are talks that Gyan allegedly has a mistress he plans to marry as soon as the divorce from Gifty is final.

His alleged mistress, Nina Atala was reportedly mistaken for his wife in June, at the grand opening of his new sports bar located in Osu, Accra.
